Concrete nouns name things that physically exist in our world. Let's look at some examples of concrete nouns being used in sentences.
The Rocky Mountains are on the west coast of North America and are huge.
In this first example, the concrete noun is the Rocky Mountains. They are something that can be seen. In this example, they are described as being huge.
Let's look at another example:
Music can be very soothing and can be enjoyed in a lot of ways, including going to concerts and listening to MP3 players.
In this example, music is the concrete noun. It is something that can be heard.
Here comes our third example:
The cat's tongue is rough like sandpaper, and it kind of tickles when she licks my hand.
In this example, the cat's tongue is the concrete noun. It can be felt and is described as being rough.
How about something we can smell in an example:
Joe put the pizza in the oven. As it was cooking, it filled the house with its delicious aroma.
The concrete noun in this example is pizza. In this case, it can be smelled, and it was described as having a delicious aroma.
Let's take a look at one last example:
I just finished eating the pizza that Joe made. It was the most delicious pizza I have ever eaten.
This example provides another concrete noun: again it is pizza. This time, however, it is being tasted and is described as being delicious.
