Indianapolis,Indiana is the birthplace of Fraser.Carol Mary and Peter Fraser are his parents.Kevin, Regan, and Sean are his older brothers. Fraser studied at Upper Canada College.In 1990,he graduated from Seattle's Cornish College of the Arts.Later he joined Southern Methodist University.

Fraser and Afton Smith married on 27 September 1998.They have three sons.They divorced in December 2007.
