The brain differs from contributing to mental illness to actually shrinking the volume of the brain. Different kinds of stress affect the brain in different ways. Stressful events are job loss, car accident, affect emotional awareness. Traumatic events such as the death of a loved one, serious illness have a greater impact on mood centers.
