The policeman is a very important public servant. He is a tall and strong man. He looks smart in his uniform. He carries with him a baton. He also has a whistle with him. In time of danger he is armed with a rifle. He has many duties to perform. He keeps law and order. He protects life and property. In big cities, he controls traffic. At night, he looks after shops and house. He is very often harsh. He does not know how to behave well. Sometimes he beats the people cruelly. His life is very hard. He has to fight with thieves and robbers. He gets very few holidays. He gets a small pay. He has to be active day and night.

But the corruption has crept in the police department as well. Some policemen are not dutiful and sincere. They prefer material gains to their duties. Sometimes they develop close ties with the anti-social elements and thus bargain the peace and harmony of society. Such policemen bring notoriety to the police department.

The policeman should be sincere to his duty. He should be honest and perform his duty. Only then we will have a good society.
