Algebraic Term
An algebraic expression is a combination of algebraic terms joined by mathematical operations ‘+’ or ‘-‘ Thus each part of an algebraic expression separated by ’+’or ‘-‘sign is an algebraic term or simply a term; for example, in expression (x3 – 3xy + 2xy2 + 12) there are four terms (x3, 3xy, 2xy2 and 12).
Like Term
The algebraic terms having exactly the same variables and exponents are called like terms. They can differ only in their coefficients; for example, (5x2) and (2x2) are like terms whereas (5x2) and (5y2) are not.
Monomial
An algebraic expression that has only one term is called monomial. For example, 7, x2, 2y3, - 4xy3, a2b2etc.
