Poor Countries are Afflicted with Major Social Evils
Social evils are the bad things that harm society. Normally, poor and developing countries are more afflicted with social evils than the rich and developed nations.
In Pakistan, the main social evils are corruption, terrorism, unemployment, poverty, pollution, illiteracy, ignorance, bribery, nepotism, black-marketing, hoarding, dishonesty, insecurity, lawlessness, adulteration, prostitution, drugs addiction, smuggling, injustice, gambling, honor killing, torture, extrajudicial killings, kidnapping for ransom, robberies, assaults, and street crimes.
Poverty is the mother of all evils
All the causes of social evils are interrelated. One evil paves the way for more ones. For example, poverty is said to be the mother of evils. A poor, unemployed and deprived person may do anything for the survival of his family. He may go to any extent to meet the basic needs of life. Then illiteracy and ignorance are the basic cause of so many evils. An illiterate person may indulge in any foul play easily. He may be the victim of any evil as well. He is deprived of education which teaches us to differentiate between right and wrong. So he is more likely to fall victim to evils.
Effects of Social Evils
Social evils have a long-range of effects. They not only shatter t1e fabric of society but also breed more evils as a necessary outcome. They form an atmosphere of injustice and dissatisfaction, creating uncertainty and insecurity at a mass level.
