Poor Countries are Afflicted with Major Social Evils

Social evils are the bad things that harm society. Normally, poor and developing countries are more afflicted with social evils than the rich and developed nations.

In Pakistan, the main social evils are corruption, terrorism, unemployment, poverty, pollution, illiteracy, ignorance, bribery, nepotism, black-marketing, hoarding, dishonesty, insecurity, lawlessness, adulteration, prostitution, drugs addiction, smuggling, injustice, gambling, honor killing, torture, extrajudicial killings, kidnapping for ransom, robberies, assaults, and street crimes.

Poverty is the mother of all evils

All the causes of social evils are interrelated. One evil paves the way for more ones. For example, poverty is said to be the mother of evils. A poor, unemployed and deprived person may do anything for the survival of his family. He may go to any extent to meet the basic needs of life. Then illiteracy and ignorance are the basic cause of so many evils. An illiterate person may indulge in any foul play easily. He may be the victim of any evil as well. He is deprived of education which teaches us to differentiate between right and wrong. So he is more likely to fall victim to evils.

Effects of Social Evils

Social evils have a long-range of effects. They not only shatter t1e fabric of society but also breed more evils as a necessary outcome. They form an atmosphere of injustice and dissatisfaction, creating uncertainty and insecurity at a mass level.

Need to Address Social Evils

There is dire need to address all the social evils seriously and individually. The government should devise a master plan to address the evils one by one with the help of experts across the country and beyond it. Some suggestions may be useful as a common remedy for the eradication of most of evils. Foreign investment may be encouraged to boost industrialization in the country. This will create more jobs. Thus the problem of unemployment may be solved which will reduce poverty and many other crimes as a result. Besides economic prosperity, the public must be given education at all levels free of cost and according to the needs of job market. For this purpose. The number of educational and technical institutions must be increased according to the needs of ever-growing population in the country.

Childs Labor

Child labor should be abandoned and all the children must be sent to schools and the government should devise social security plans to meet the expenditure of those families which depend on the labor of their under age children.

With the help of overseas Pakistanis, government and non- governmental organizations should take steps to solve the social problems of the society at large scale.

Everyone should play his role to reform the social life around him so that evils may be removed from the society collectively.
