Method & Steps

Sentence Completion questions on the SAT is relatively easy for students. You have to choice only a single correct word.

If you know nuts and bolts of sentence completion foremost, it will help you to solve these easily. Let solve fill in the blanks of it.

Following steps are to be followed while solving it:

  1. First of all define the blank. Guess the right answer according to hints of context.
  2. From the given options look up the suitable one that makes sense.

Here we go to solve them.

Question 1

'Credit his kind mien and --------------- manner, Frank was always a pleasing visitor.' According to the nature of sentence both ‘kind mien’ and ‘pleasing visitor’ indicating something positive.

So, let choice the best option to fill in the blank:

  1. Exhausted
  2. Ambitious
  3. Divergent
  4. Lively
  5. Redundant

So, the correct answer is D as it fits perfectly in the blank.

Here, ‘Exhausted’ means 'tired,' which is inappropriate. Ambitious means ‘attempt for success,' However it does not fit in the blank. Lively means ' Lighthearted' or 'playful.' It makes sense accordingly.

'Credit his kind mien and lively manner, Frank was always a pleasing visitor.'

Question 2

Let’s try another example:

'John was such a friendly and ____________ person and had time for all his people. Let’s choose the best option.

  1. Conventional
  2. Convivial
  3. Evasive
  4. Vigilant
  5. Repugnant

Here you can look up the synonym of outgoing or could make elimination accordingly. Now, check the meaning of each.

  • Conventional means for some sort of conservative person.
  • Convivial relates to gathering of people/ social person).
  • Evasive means hidden or difficult to find.
  • Vigilant relates the watchfulness.
  • Repugnant is means as deserving blame.

So option B “Convivial” is correct.

Question 3

Now look at last one to have command over topic. We may have a ______ lab and an unreliable student training centers, but our faculty is the best in Pakistan.

  1. Decrepit
  2. Disruptive
  3. Despondent
  4. Appended
  5. Insular

Here unreliable is the best clue. So, let it check,

  • Decrepit means ‘fallen into disrepair’
  • Disruptive sensed for ‘troublesome’
  • Despondent relates to ‘loss of courage’
  • Appended means for attachment

Only 'Decrepit' fits in the blank, so A correct!
