Essay Introduction Write a Thesis And Capture Your Audience

The Importance of an Introduction

As it is narrated:

“First impression is the last impression”.

So, your introductory paragraph would tell your reader the whole theme of your essay and cast an impression of your skill on him as well. The quality of your introductory paragraph matters a lot. If you are unable to give effective introduction the your writer would not get good impression about your essay and ultimately your marks would reduce.

So, by following my three simple steps, you would be able to enclose your ideas in an introductory paragraph more effectively:

Rules of Introductions

  • Your essay must contain some specifics to catch the attention of reader
  • At least one sentence that acts like a bridge must be used in an essay.
  • Be sure to write the thesis statement at the end of introductory paragraph and that serves the your arguable point throughout your essay.

Types of 'Attention Getters'

Lets’ discuss some “Attention Getter”:

The first thing that come across your readers are attention getters. Their job is to keep the reader stuck to your essay. Several ways of using these are:

  • Use a shocking statistic

Let’s me that 'My paper is about over population” . The title itself does not create interest. However, when I present that per day the population growth throughout the world is 58%. It would cause my reader to read further as the statics are too shocking.

  • Integrate a quote:

Another way to get readers attention is to make the content of your writing relatable to the reader. During my research, I asked people about the growth of over population and majority of them respond that “ They are feared of this uncontrollable growth of population as it may leads to shortage of resources.” (US research 2015).

So, this will help you in gaining attraction of reader.

Ask a thought-provoking question:

When you ask your reader a question this will help you to develop a thought among them and engage their attention.

The Bridge

The next step after gaining the readers’ attention is to develop a bridge. You have to develop it so to take your reader from side A to Side B. The sentence or two between these are identified as, no coincidence, the bridge. Let me chose to use a statistic to start my recent essay. My aim is to take people from the idea of attention getter to the thesis statement by the help of bridge.

So, 60% of surveyed respond that “ They are feared of this uncontrollable growth of population as it may leads to shortage of resources.” (US research 2015). We live in a time when most everyone has desire of having more than 2 kids. Moreover, there is no restriction on people regarding child born.

So, See what I did there? First catch the attention of the readers and led them to the idea of people desire and government relief.

The Thesis Statement

Now it is the time to complete the quality introduction by giving the argument in the last part of introductory paragraph to build the essay direction. That ending part is referred as thesis.

Keep in mind that that your thesis must be stated at the last sentence of the introduction, and it must be arguable.

Let me say, 'My paper is about over population’. It is just the title and does not serves the reader that what I am going to write about it. This problem is solved via thesis. So, our thesis would be:

In this era of modernization, population is poorly growing. This will lead to the shortage of resource. Therefore, government must take measures in controlling it.

So, it is left with the arguable thesis.
