Corruption means dishonest or illegal behavior, especially of people in authority. According to the Transparency International, Pakistan is one of the most corrupt countries in the world. Corruption in Police, WAPDA and Revenue is more evident, though no department is devoid of this vice. To fight corruption, we have to look through its causes first. When services do not expend in accordance with the increasing population, the work load multiplies and the public suffers from delays and denials. This is the root cause of corruption in our society.
With the changing time, everyone is in a hurry. No one likes to wait for a long time. The officials have the power to proceed out of turn. So every person gets his job done by bribing the authorities. Thus corruption has become a necessary evil in our society.
Because the evil has spread from how to high, no complaint brings fruit against it: all cats are grey in the dark. First of all, we must generate more services which may meet the needs of population easily. As most of our problems are the direct cause of population explosion, we must take measures to curb the population. Anti-corruption department should be made more effective and vigilant. Investigation of corrupt people must be transparent through scientific technology. The punishment of such culprits should be severe and certain. Political influence must be removed to ensure merit policy.
The cooperation of most transparent countries, like Finland and Denmark, must be sought in this regard.
The independent judiciary must be ensured. Fair and quick justice can also help to control corruption.
A special complaint cell should be introduced in every town to address the grievances of the people at daily basis.
The equal distribution of wealth and services through taxes can help a great deal.
