Childhood is a Pleasure Time

Childhood has its own pleasure and importance. It is, no doubt, a golden age. For me it was a period of joy. There was no worry. I was quite free of responsibilities. Life was to eat, drink and be merry. Whenever I remember those days, I feel delighted. That was a carefree life. I often recall memories of my childhood. I want to share some of them with you.

In my childhood, I often visited one of my uncles who lived in a small village. This was quite a new world for us. There was no electricity in that village. We placed our cots under the shade of huge trees. My uncle would fix a swing for us. My brothers and sisters enjoyed the swing in turn.

Peace and serenity in Childhood

There was great peace and serenity in the midst of nature. During the summer vacation, the crops were ripe all around. Early in the morning, we picked a great harvest of melons for breakfast. That was quite fun. The whole routine of life was changed. After some hours, we drank sweet whey.

Sometimes, I helped my uncle and cousins to harvest the crop of wheat. It was a difficult task for me but I did it eagerly for its novelty. We played hide and seek in the crops. My aunt had reared a lot of poultry for household use. All the hens lived in crops. Sometimes they rested under the shades of trees. We were given the task of catching some particular ones for cooking. When we chased them, they hid into the crops. We had to roam a great deal to catch them. Their tasty meat was a real delight for us.

In the noon, my aunt cooked bread in an earthen oven. My mother helped her with cooking. At a short distance, there was a well driven by oxen. This not only irrigated the crops but also met the need for water for household use. We would take a bath there in the open running water of well.

My Childhood

As my uncle lived at a farmhouse, there was no boundary wall of the house. We were able to see the whole landscape staying at home. A rough road passed through the fields. We often saw the wooden carts moving slowly at it. My uncle and aunt both were regular smokers. They would refresh their hubble-bubble early in the morning.

Summer evening in this rustic atmosphere had a great visual impact. At the end of summer vacation, when we decided to depart, my uncle would give us and to the city, on his wooden cart this had been a charming journey for us.

All these small but interesting events threw their lasting shades on the canvas of my life. I often recall those moments of joy and feel sad. Now the way of life has changed. Now, I remain busy in the humdrum life of the city. There is no opportunity to spend some moments in the vicinity of nature. In this fast pace of life, I achieved much but I lost nature and its beauties. I analyze my childhood and adulthood and conclude that there is no match of childhood blessings.
