Early life and family

Bachchan was born in Allahabad. His ancestors came from a village called Babupatti, in the Raniganj tehsil, state of Uttar Pradesh, in India.
His mother, Teji Bachchan, was a social activist and Punjabi Sikh woman from Lahore. His father Harivansh Rai Bachchan was a Hindi-speaking Kayastha Hindu poet.
Bachchan is a pupil of Sherwood College, Nainital. He later attended Kirori Mal College, University of Delhi. He is married to actress Jaya Bhaduri.

Acting career

Bachchan made his film debut in 1969. His first acting role was in the film Saat Hindustani. From 1973 to 2003, he played a leading role in Zanjeer, Deewar, Sholay, Don, Trishul, Muqaddar ka Sikandar, Amar Akbar Anthony, Laawaris, Coolie, Baghban.In 1982, he played double roles in the musical Satte Pe Satta which was box office success.

From 2005 to present, he played leading as well as supporting roles in several series like Khakee, Aetbaar, Dev, Lakshya, Deewaar - Let's Bring Our Heroes Home, Kyun! Ho Gaya Na, Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo, Black, Waqt - The Race Against Time, Bunty Aur Babli, Sarkar, Viruddh...
