The work of collecting and writing news stories for newspapers, magazines, radio or television is called journalism. The idea is to inform the public at large. Along with covering organizations and institutions such as government and businesses, journalism also covers cultural aspects of society such as arts and entertainment.
Journalism is getting popularity day by day. The way events are occurring round the world today, opportunities are increasing in this field. Print and electronic media offer tremendous career opportunities in journalism. Today the world has changed altogether. The circumstances in Pakistan have also changed. Increase in literacy rate, industrial development and advancement in technology have pleasantly affected the print and electronic media. Today, more than sixty news and entertainment television channels are broadcasting their programs round the clock. The newspapers have developed a great deal.
The number of newspapers has also increased. The remunerations of the working journalists have increased manifold. Those who have proper qualification prove more successful iii this profession. On the job training further opens window of opportunities. It is, therefore, a very attractive career choice for the youth.
The journalists, who work in the offices, are responsible for collecting news. Articles, events messages. Announcements and other substance received through different sources. They make the material publishable by composing, editing and arranging it in the shape of newspaper. Journalists who like field journalism have to cover events in the field. They have to work in an environment where there is no time schedule and have to respond to the events as quickly associable to cover them in a highly exceptional way.
Journalists enjoy some privileges not entitled to general public. Including access to public events, crime scenes and press conferences, and to extended interviews with public officials, celebrities and others in the public eye. But with these advantages, journalists occasionally had to face awkward moments.
